Estates and Facilities Assistant

King Edward’s School and King Edward VI High School are seeking to appoint an Estates and Facilities Assistant on an all-year-round, permanent basis.

The ideal candidate will be an energetic and highly motivated individual, with a strong interest in facilities management who will have the knowledge and expertise to support the Estates and Facilities Manager in ensuring that the buildings and facilities that make up King Edward Independent School estate are fully functioning and fit for purpose. The successful candidate will be involved with the day-to-day running of the school, working closely with the Estates and Facilities Manager to ensure the appropriateness, quality and safety of the school environment.

The successful candidate will be a team player who is used to working to tight deadlines and is dedicated to maintaining an environment where staff and students alike are able to meet exacting standards of educational excellence.

Salary: £19,515 – £21,517 (Grade 3 SCP 6 – SCP8).
Hours: Day shift: 07:00 to 15:30 Night shift: (one week in three) 11:00 to 19:30.

General Catering Assistant

A General Catering Assistant is required for our busy dining facility, catering for over 1,200 pupils and staff daily. General Assistants’ responsibilities include washing up, general kitchen duties, food preparation and serving food to pupils and staff.

A current food hygiene certificate is essential, and occasional evening and weekend overtime is required.

Training and uniform will be provided.

Food Studies Technician

We are seeking an experienced enthusiastic individual with a commitment to high standards to provide comprehensive technician support to the Food Studies department.

Reporting to: Head of Food Studies

Salary: £6,157 actual (£19,515 FTE) plus benefits - Grade 3 SCP 6

Hours: Thursday and Friday 8.30am to 4.30 pm with a 30 minute unpaid lunch break.

Type of position: Part time, permanent, term-time (including INSET days)

Benefits: School fee discount, defined contribution pension, lunch in term time, complimentary access to gym facilities and parking

Journalist in Residence

King Edward VI High School for Girls, the leading girls’ school in the West Midlands, has a rich tradition of journalistic activity including magazines, newsletters and podcasts, and a number of our alumnae have gone on to become successful journalists.

We are now looking for our first Journalist in Residence - a professional with good connections in the media who can harness and inspire our students’ output in a range of different formats, including digital media, so as to maximise the impact of their work.

We would expect you to be available to lead sessions for approximately 50 hours across the school year, and we hope you would join us in Autumn 2021. We can offer a schedule with the flexibility to fit around your commitments and the potential for a mixture of in-person and Zoom meetings. The sessions would be paid at the rate of £40 - £50 per hour.

Recent experience in the media is essential, as is a genuine engagement with young, bright students.
