We have had a fantastic week of events to raise money for Comic Relief. U4H delivered some brilliant and informative assemblies about Comic Relief, including a very funny video of teachers telling jokes, some more successfully than others! On Tuesday, a hugely successful KES vs KEHS netball match took place along with a cake sale. Wednesday saw the staff take on, and be defeated by, the Sixth Form Sports Committee, in another netball match. On Thursday, Ms Platt hosted a Teachers vs Sixth Form university challenge style quiz, which again saw the teachers defeated! As well as all these events, on Friday many students sported red accessories and red noses and another successful cake sale was hosted. For this, the Thirds were able to contribute cupcakes which they made in Food Studies, as a part of learning about batch production techniques. The funny poem competition has also been very successful, with many entertaining entries. The winners will be announced next week. Our events have raised over £300 and donations are still being counted.
Netflix movie: 6888 Central Postal Directory Battalion
Exciting news! On Thursday 12 December, the BBC One Show featured the incredible true story behind the upcoming Netflix movie The Six Triple Eight, starring Kerry Washington and Oprah Winfrey. This was a remarkable opportunity to learn about the story of the 6888 Central Postal Directory Battalion – an all-female, predominantly African-American unit stationed at King Edward’s School during the Second World War.
