King Edward VI High School for Girls is situated on a beautiful 50-acre site next to the University of Birmingham, which it shares with its brother school, King Edward’s School. Few day schools in this country enjoy such space and quality of buildings, and yet we are less than three miles from the city centre.
Sir Paul and Lady Ruddock Performing Arts Centre
The £11m Sir Paul and Lady Ruddock Performing Arts Centre, which opened in 2012, provides a 400-seater concert hall, 120-seater studio theatre, a dance studio and further provision for the teaching, rehearsal and practice of music, dance and drama.
The £3m Design Centre opened in January 2023 and features an enhanced exhibition space, modern classrooms, and workshop facilities. The centre is designed to inspire and improve the learning opportunities for students. It features contemporary design and environmentally friendly technologies. The facilities include a DT studio, two computing labs, a DT workshop, a ceramics studio, and an art library.
We have two exclusive and beautifully furnished spaces in which our Sixth Formers can socialise, study and grab a bite to eat: Café Six, which serves light refreshments throughout the day, and The Atrium, a great place for relaxing or meeting to work collaboratively, and featuring its own computer room.
The school’s extensive grounds provide outstanding facilities for sporting pursuits. The indoor sports hall is a hive of activity, with four badminton courts, an indoor netball court, basketball court, and indoor cricket nets.
There is also an indoor swimming pool, dance studio, fitness suite with cardio equipment, and a strength/conditioning area.
Outside the school main building, there are two astro hockey pitches, seven tennis courts, five outdoor netball courts, two 7-a-side football pitches, and a grass cricket wicket. The school also shares an international-standard athletics track with King Edward’s School and the University of Birmingham
