Our community service and charitable work at KEHS is extensive.

This involves girls from every year group and staff in fundraising for a multitude of good causes, and undertaking other service activities in the wider community – whilst having lots of fun and developing good character.

We are proud to have an incredibly long history of community service at KEHS. Raising money for important causes, going out and helping in the local community, and raising awareness of charities and organisations that are close to our hearts have been, and continue to be, a central part of school life.

The school has recently relaunched Community Service at KEHS as Care. Do. Give (CDG).

“The sums of money raised for local and international charities, the different workshops run for local primary schools, the visits and the hostings all confirm the responsible and generous position of the school reaching out to its surrounding community.”

In a typical year, we undertake the following types of fundraising activities and other forms of service.

Year Group Fundraising

Year Group Fundraising

Year 7 to Year 11 forms have weekly collections and host charity events (such as lunchtime bake sales) to raise funds for their chosen Form Charities. Each year group will have one charity they fundraise for through weekly charity collections in their form times, and have two year group representatives. These representatives organise and promote events throughout the year. Sixth Form has one charity for both year groups, weekly charity collections and a team of 16 students (the CDG team) who promote and organise CDG events.

House Charities

House Charities

Each House helps fundraise for and helps promote the work of a chosen House Charity. These charities have a specific ‘national’ or ‘international’ day which acts as a focus for fundraising and raising awareness about that charity. At present, the charities (and charity days) are:
  • Beaufort - Comic Relief, Red Nose Day
  • Bordeaux – NSPCC, Childhood Day
  • Seymour - Water Aid, World Water Day
  • Tudor - Children in Need, Children in Need Day

Sixth Form Charity Weeks

Sixth Form Charity Weeks

Both Sixth Form year groups have their own dedicated Charity Week: Year 12 and Year 13 CDG Team design week-long programmes of fun charity events to fundraise for their chosen charity.

Non-uniform Day

Non-uniform Day

Once every half term, members of the school community make a charitable donation for the privilege of an own-clothes day in aid of one of our whole school charities, or a particular global need at that time (such as an earthquake appeal).

Whole school charity events

Some whole school events, such as ‘Karaoke’ and Sports Day, double as key fundraisers for our CDG programme.

Operating on an ongoing basis and supplemented by pupil-led initiatives, we collect food, hygiene and clothing items for local refuges, shelters, and food banks, under the umbrella of the King Edward’s Home Bank, a joint initiative with KES.

Sixth Form Community Service and Partnerships

Sixth Form Community Service and Partnerships

All Sixth Form students take part in Community Service projects through the Friday enrichment activities. Sixth Formers have the opportunity to visit nearby primary schools and support the learning of younger pupils, and also take part in our Partnerships programme, where primary school children visit us and take part in activities in various subjects.

At KEHS, we believe service education, community service and our CDG programme to be central to helping our students to become characterful, outward looking individuals who will go on to make a positive impact in our communities and beyond.

“The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. Intelligence plus character – that is the goal of true education.”
