Sikh Society Hosts Spectacular Langar Celebration for Chet and the Sikh New Year

This Langar wasn’t just about food — it was a celebration of the Sikh values of seva (selfless service), equality, and community spirit. Pupils who had never attended a Langar before were able to experience a tradition that is as much about giving and gratitude as it is about sharing a meal.
On a bright and vibrant afternoon at KEHS, our Sikh Society brought the spirit of spring alive with a joyful and deeply meaningful Langar to mark the beginning of Chet — the first month of the Sikh calendar and a time of new beginnings. With Vaisakhi just around the corner in April, the event offered the school community a wonderful opportunity to learn, reflect and most of all, come together in unity and celebration.
Over 300 students and staff gathered to enjoy the Langar — a free vegetarian meal served in the traditional Sikh style. The atmosphere in the hall was filled with warmth, laughter and conversation as pupils from all year groups shared food and friendship, sitting side-by-side in true Langar tradition.
What made the event even more special was the incredible support from volunteers, including members of the wider community. A heartfelt thank you goes to Priyam’s mum and Mr Singh’s wife, among others, whose generosity and energy helped make the day such a success. We are also immensely grateful to the KEHS staff and facilities team, who supported the large-scale preparations and made it possible for our school to host such a significant event.

As the colourful month of Chet blossoms and Vaisakhi draws near — a major harvest festival and celebration of the birth of the Khalsa — we look forward to even more opportunities to embrace the many cultures and faiths that enrich life at KEHS.
A huge thank you to everyone who attended, volunteered or supported this event in any way. Here’s to more celebrations, more shared moments, and more learning from one another.

German exchange trip to Hamburg

When we were not out on trips, our pupils were attending lessons with their exchange partners in our partner school, the Gymnasium Oldenfelde in Hamburg-Rahlstedt. It was fascinating to see the many differences between the English and German school systems.

An exploration of Ancient Greece

From the very first day to the last, we found ourselves entirely submerged in both modern and ancient Greek culture, from participating in a couple of chaotic dances to being taught (and quizzed) on different objects we hunted for in the museums.
