Congratulations to Upper Fifth students Lauren and Maryam, who have had their work published by Young Writers in the latest collection of creative writing on the theme of ‘contamination’. Young Writers was created in 1991 with the express purpose of promoting and encouraging creative writing. Each competition created is tailored to a specific age group, giving each student the freedom and incentive to create their own piece of work, be that a poem, mini saga or short story. Lauren wrote a terrific short story called The Fear, involving corpses, smelling odours and violent shuddering whilst Maryam wrote Words on Skin, an ambiguous short story containing decolourised veins, a detective and a body shrouded with computer viruses.
