On Tuesday 24th November, last year’s Upper Fifth girls attended our annual Speech Day. The ceremony featured performances from our string quartet consisting of Samantha, Alisha and Bronagh and a singing piece from Naina accompanied by Jessie. An encouraging speech was delivered by Old Edwardian Cheryl Fitzgerald, Consultant Gynaecologist at St Mary’s Hospital, Manchester (Class of 1981) who spoke about her experiences at KEHS, and the lifelong friendships she formed here. Addressing the pandemic, and the difficulties faced by the Lower Sixth, she stressed the importance of resilience, adaptability, kindness and optimism. She told girls that they “will not be the generation blighted by Covid, but rather the one that triumphed over it”. Cheryl ended by advising the Lower Sixth to be brave with their choices, excited by their future and optimistic about the present. Sharmila gave a heartfelt Vote of Thanks and two films, produced by Danielle and Maya, were shown focusing on the girls’ lockdown experiences and their memories over the last five years including the annual karaoke! Well done to all of the girls upon receiving their GCSE certificates and prizes, and thank you to Cheryl Fitzgerald and all those involved in the ceremony.
Landmark GCSE success reinforces KEHS position as top academic school in the West Midlands
Upper Fifth pupils at King Edward VI High School for Girls have delivered a record-breaking performance in their GCSEs, achieving the highest results in the school’s history, and reflecting the consistent position of KEHS as one of the leading schools in the country.
