On Wednesday 30th January, Joshua Heyes, a doctoral researcher from the University of Birmingham, gave a stimulating talk to Sixth Formers about the nuanced approaches to sexual ethics within Christianity. He spoke about Husserl’s idea of phenomenology, philosophical theories of the mind and body, desire centred anthropology and discussed how these ideas relate to issues of sexual ethics. Central to his discussion were the concepts of Agape and Eros and the mirroring of God’s love in human relationships. Despite being a controversial and much debated field of study, Joshua’s talk provided some interesting new angles for the students to consider in their current module. Thank you to Joshua for giving up his time to speak to our students.
