Careers Talks

Last week the Upper Fifth attended their first careers talks of the Autumn term. Each girl chose to listen to one of three talks by visiting speakers. Steve Ward of KPMG spoke about a career in finance and the routes open to new entrants. Dr Emily Russell (OE 2012) talked to girls about medical school.

Last week the Upper Fifth attended their first careers talks of the Autumn term. Each girl chose to listen to one of three talks by visiting speakers. Steve Ward of KPMG spoke about a career in finance and the routes open to new entrants. Dr Emily Russell (OE 2012) talked to girls about medical school. Newly qualified from Oxford and now working as an F1 in Care of the Elderly at the Royal Berkshire Hospital in Reading, Emily is well placed to talk about the jump up from final year medical student to being a Junior Doctor with a massively increased responsibility! Finally, Paven Virk delivered a session on writing for the stage and screen and gave a great insight into how scripts come to fruition, as well as the challenges of the industry. Girls were given some useful tips on drama training in general – hint: don’t ignore the stage! We are grateful to all speakers for giving up their time to contribute to our careers programme. These talks are a great opportunity for the Upper Fifth to explore different careers. Later on in the term we will be visited by a Circuit Judge, a Civil Engineer, a Digital Marketer and a Detective Inspector, amongst many others!

Lara delivers fascinating talk at TEDxTamworth

During the Easter holidays, Lower Sixth pupil Lara was selected to speak at TEDxTamworth, where she stepped onto the stage alongside 11 adult speakers to deliver a talk on ‘Why The AI Age Belongs to the Teen Generalist’.

The Holi event was brought to life on the KEHS field last Friday. We raised over £500 for the Wings of Hope charity which supports the education of children in India and Sierra Leone.

On Friday 24 April, I was proud to host the school’s very first Changemakers Live event in the PAC: a joint student-led school conference built around intellectual curiosity and communicating ideas, inspired by the concept of TED talks.
