This year:
- 43% of grades were A*
- 78% of grades were A/A*
- 95% of grades were A*-B
Of the 89 pupils in the Upper Sixth cohort, 19 (21%) achieved three or more A*s, and 13 (15%) achieved straight A*s.
Reflecting the breadth of pupils’ intellectual curiosity, 23 pupils took four or more A Levels.
KEHS continues to be recognised not only for its academic excellence but also for its vibrant co-curricular life, which was described as a “significant strength” in its latest inspection report. Last month The Telegraph named KEHS the UK’s best value private school, citing its below-average fees, outstanding exam results and exceptional facilities, and the school is The Sunday Times’s West Midlands Independent School for Academic Results 2025.
Subjects of particular note are Art (83% A*, 92% A*/A); Economics (95% A*/A); French (100% A*); Latin and Greek (100% A*/A across the two subjects); Psychology (95% A*/A); Spanish (100% A*/A); and Theatre Studies (75% A*/A, 100% A*-B).
Higher Education destinations for the Class of 2025 include: Cambridge for Modern and Medieval Languages; Oxford for History; Nottingham for Architecture; Leeds for Law; St Andrews for Geology; Liverpool for Game Design; and Edinburgh for Theology and Philosophy. All 12 of the pupils holding offers from Oxford or Cambridge have secured their places.
Mrs Kirsty von Malaisé, Chief Master & Principal of King Edward VI High School for Girls (KEHS) and King Edward’s School (KES), said:
“It is with great pride that we celebrate another set of excellent A Level results with our pupils and their families. KEHS is recognised for being an environment in which pupils are encouraged to enjoy their learning, explore their interests with rigour and openness, challenge themselves, and grow into confident, curious individuals. The Class of 2025 has excelled both in and beyond the classroom, and are now set to embark on exciting new journeys, studying a wide range of impressive degrees at leading universities. I’m thankful to our outstanding staff for the care and expertise they bring to every pupil’s journey, and to our pupils for the ambition, commitment and spirit they have shown throughout their time with us. We wish them every success as they begin this next chapter of their lives.”
The following pupils are among those celebrating today.
Rebecca, who achieved an outstanding six A*s in French, Spanish, Greek, Music, Maths and Further Maths, will be heading to Cambridge to study Modern and Medieval Languages (French and Spanish). A gifted linguist and musician, she has been playing the piano since the age of four and has performed in numerous Symphony Orchestra concerts during her time at school, showcasing her passion for music alongside her academic excellence. “It feels great – it’s such a nice payoff for all the hard work,” she said. “Studying French and Spanish at Cambridge has been my dream. I’ve always believed languages are so important not just for communication, but for how we think and connect with the world.
“Outside of academics, music has been a huge part of my life here. It’s been a creative outlet and a reprieve from the pressures of academic life. I’ve played in classical ensembles since Year 7, joined the jazz band in Year 10 – which honestly changed my life -and this year I had the chance to perform a piano concerto, which was absolutely amazing. It’s been both a long and short seven years at KEHS. I’ve met incredible people and I’m really going to miss my teachers, who’ve supported me every step of the way.”
Violet, whose A Level choices of Art, Latin, Music, Physics and the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) reflected her broad interests, is Liverpool-bound to study Game Design. It is a subject she has always been interested in and was able to explore at KEHS through the Digital Art Club, coding as a Friday Block option and academically via her EPQ. “I recently found a primary school letter that said I wanted to be a game designer from Year 6 so it is amazing to be following that through,” she said.
Neave, who was netball vice-captain and involved in drama productions during her time at KEHS, is heading to Edinburgh to read Theology and Philosophy, having studied History, Religious Studies and Theatre Studies at A Level. “It is overwhelming,” she said. “I did not really expect that this is where I would be going. I really like the joint honours course at Edinburgh and the city. KEHS has been very supportive. All the teachers are very helpful and go the extra step for you.”
Alia is now preparing to study Medicine at Leicester, having achieved a suite of top grades in Biology, Chemistry and French. One of the school’s Sport Scholars in recognition of her achievements in archery, which included representing Great Britain at the European Youth Championships, she recalled the balance that KEHS enabled her to achieve. “KEHS has really shaped me as a person,” she said. “I would not be the person I am today without the school. It encouraged me to strike a balance, encouraging me to do everything I wanted to do academically and in sport. The teachers have always been really supportive of this.”
Mia, who joined the KEHS Sixth Form from King Edward VI Lordswood School for Girls and has been part of the netball team during her two years at the school, will read Law at Leeds, thanks to her superb results in A Level Economics (A*), English (A*) and Politics (A). “I am just shocked to be honest, and really proud of myself,” she said. “The teachers have been amazing, and really give you an advantage.”
Chloe, who also joined the Sixth Form from Lordswood, achieved an A* in Art and As in Maths and Physics. A Sport Scholar and county-level hockey player, she will be heading to Nottingham to study Architecture. “I got into my top choice and I’m really excited about university,” she said. “I’m looking forward to studying Architecture as it brings together the subjects I love and allows me to be both analytical and creative.
“I’ve played hockey since I was six, and becoming a Sport Scholar and captain here has been a huge part of my Sixth Form experience. We’ve done really well as a team, and I’ll be continuing with university hockey too. I’ve really enjoyed coming to KEHS as I’ve met my best friends here and I’m going to miss my teachers so much.”
Freya’s combination of A Level Art, Biology, Chemistry and Spanish has paved the way for her to read Law and Spanish, including a year abroad, at Bristol. “I did not expect to be where I am today,” she said. “The teachers have been amazing, they have been so patient with me!”
Lulu, winner of this year’s BBC Young Writers’ Award, achieved 4 A*s in History, Politics, Latin and her EPQ, and will be heading to Oxford to study History.
“I’m feeling very relieved – it’s such a good feeling to have that clarity,” she said. “History has always been my favourite subject. I love how it helps you understand the world through the past, and I’ve always been drawn to both History and Politics. My teachers have helped me succeed and made me feel so comfortable here. I’m really going to miss the people the most. Some of my best friends are also going to Oxford, and I’m so excited to continue that journey with them.”
Anusha, who achieved A*s in History and Politics and an A in English, will be heading to Cambridge to study History. A passionate advocate for youth engagement and political literacy, she was recently appointed as a Member of the European Youth Parliament and Chair of the Worcestershire Youth Cabinet, and has launched Per Capita, a fully-fledged independent student newspaper and magazine publication. She was also awarded the prestigious Creak Memorial Prize at school – an honour made even more meaningful when she discovered that Miss Creak, the first Headmistress of KEHS, was among the first few students at her Cambridge college, Newnham.
“I’m so grateful to all my teachers, especially Mr Haines and Mrs Whitehead, for their support. What I’ll miss most is how KEHS encourages you to pursue everything you’re interested in. I’ve been able to do so much – from helping run debating and politics societies, to launching a company, and getting involved in youth politics outside of school. I’d say to anyone: take up all the opportunities KEHS has to offer. They really do shape who you become.”
Annalisa’s outstanding results in Art, Chemistry and Geography means she will be heading to St Andrews to study Geology. Passionate about the natural world, she is excited to explore Earth Sciences further. “I’m so happy and relieved – it’s amazing to know I’m heading to my top choice,” she said. “I’m really going to miss the friends I’ve made and the incredible support we get at school. KEHS has been so encouraging throughout my time here.”
Aanika, who achieved A*s in Economics, Maths, Further Maths and Spanish, along with an A* in her EPQ, will be heading to the London School of Economics to study International Relations. Inspired by the work of the United Nations, she sees this as the beginning of a journey towards making a meaningful difference in the world.
“I’m feeling over the moon,” she said. I’ve always looked up to the people working in the UN, I really admire them and hope to follow in their footsteps one day. The whole school has been a highlight for me. The teachers have helped me every step of the way and created the best environment, especially at A Level.
“KEHS encourages you to get involved in everything, and I’ve loved that. I was vice-president of the Dance Committee, Beaufort House Captain, and helped lead Culture Week, bringing together around 60 girls for dance performances in assemblies. I also ran a salsa night and took part in societies like Spanish and Economics. I want to thank all my teachers so much – they’ve been incredible.”
