This term’s Guitar and Drum Evening was held in the Ruddock Hall on Monday 3rd December. The Guitar Orchestra and Ensemble opened the concert and 27 soloists then took to the stage to showcase their talents. Congratulations to the following pupils who took part in the evening: Zeena, Eleanor, Emma, Nikitha, Maya, Sundeep, Nikita, Vybhavi, Emilia and Anthea.

The lunchtime recital on December 6th was filled with Chamber Music from a wide variety of genres. Samantha, Jenny, Naina and Beatrice performed the beautifully serene first movement of Mendelssohn’s String Quartet no. 1 in E flat major op.12. Saffron, Charlotte, Ben, Roshan and Nikita treated the audience to Ibert’s charming Trois pièces brèves for Wind Quintet, bringing out a range of tones and colours in all of the instruments. Charlotte, Bronagh, Rosy, Naina, Beatrice and Mark performed a little-known String Sextet by Jörg Widmann entitled 180 beats per minute, ending the recital with a flourish!

As usual, the end of the Autumn Term has been a busy one in the Music Department with no sign of things slowing down yet! A whole term’s work for all of our ensembles culminated in our three Christmas Concerts on Sunday 9th and Monday 10th December, performing to sold-out audiences in the Ruddock Hall. Parents and friends were treated to performances (some festive, some not) by Choral Society, Wind Band, Training String Orchestra, Senior Swing Band, KEHS Chamber Choir, KES/KEHS Symphony Orchestra, KES Choir, Junior Swing Band, Concert Band, KEHS Lower School Choir and Concert Orchestra. Thanks as always to all of the Music Department staff in both schools, and huge congratulations to all of the pupils who took part from both schools.

On Saturday 8th December, Hira and Salihah performed at the Edgbaston Priory Club Christmas ball. They played a selection of Christmas music to entertain guests and were able to raise money for the School’s Farm Trip.
