Children from Bordesley Green Primary School have been composing music inspired by Julia Donaldson’s The Gruffalo this term, as part of our KEHS Music Makers outreach programme. Mrs Johnston has made two visits to the school to work with pupils in Reception, helping them to create animal soundscapes using tuned and untuned percussion, and developing their ideas further to devise short rhythmic compositions based on Donaldson’s fantastic text. These opportunities have enabled the children to have access to a wide variety of musical instruments, sometimes for the first time, and to use them to respond creatively to a well-known text. The children have been an absolute delight to work with; many thanks to the staff at Bordesley Green Primary for making Mrs Johnston so welcome.
