On Wednesday 5 February, we welcomed Lower Sixth students and parents to our annual University Information Evening held at the RPAC. Mr Roderick Smith, Director of Admissions at the University of Birmingham, gave a very informative talk about how to make a good university application, from choosing a course and institution, to writing a strong personal statement and some real life examples of pitfalls to avoid!

Students then attended a choice of talks over three sessions, with topics including studying Natural Sciences, Modern Languages, American and Canadian Studies, Biology, Psychology and Criminology, Philosophy, and English Literature. Students also had the opportunity to learn about attending Drama School as an alternative pathway into the Arts.

This was a great opportunity for students to hear from admissions experts and to ask questions about specific courses and applications. We hope that this gave the Lower Sixth food for thought as they start to explore their options for post A Level study.

The Careers Department would like to thank all staff involved for their support of this event, as well as our visiting speakers from the following universities: Birmingham, Warwick, King’s, Nottingham, York, Bristol, Royal Central School of Speech and Drama.
