On Saturday 19th January, Gracia, Sundeep, Lauren and Catherine made the trek across the road to the University of Birmingham to compete in the Royal Society of Chemistry’s ‘Top of the Bench’ Regional Finals. They competed against other school teams in the West Midlands, participating in a written exam and a practical experiment, where they were tested on their theoretical knowledge, practical lab work and health and safety, and their ability to work as a team. After a lecture given by a Fourth Year University of Birmingham Chemistry student the results were announced and the team was placed Third, rising six positions from their original placement. Congratulations to the team, this is a fantastic achievement and the best result the school has gained in the last few years. We hope that Dr Simpson’s team next year can progress even further.
