Changemakers Live

Eight pupils stand on a stage in front of a screen that reads "CHANGEMAKERS live".
On Friday 24 April, I was proud to host the school’s very first Changemakers Live event in the PAC: a joint student-led school conference built around intellectual curiosity and communicating ideas, inspired by the concept of TED talks.

This year’s event was a pilot but hopefully, we will make this a permanent fixture in the school calendar and open it up to all year groups to allow a wider variety of perspectives shared.

When I launched Changemakers Live, my aim was to give students a platform to share ambitious ideas that they’re passionate about, to provide an opportunity to present a TED-style talk at our incredible venue right here at school, and develop public speaking skills. One essential skill that we should nurture in the AI age is communication. Being able to think clearly and communicate our thoughts to others is a human skill that matters more than ever now.

This year’s event brought together Lower Sixth speakers who delivered a series of short thought-provoking talks on the theme ‘The Future’. Each speaker brought their own perspective to the stage, making it an inspiring afternoon that left us reflecting long after the event ended. One of the highlights of the event was the Q&A, where audience questions led to further discussion and debate. It was inspiring to see the speakers think critically and respond in the moment, which is just what I hoped would be achieved.

I’m very grateful to Dr Limm, Mrs Sangha and Mrs Giaquinto, who have supported me with initiating this event – behind the scenes planning, preparation and organising logistics & communications. It was fantastic to see the event come to life successfully.

I hope that Changemakers Live will continue to grow as an annual platform at KES and KEHS for students to share novel ideas in the years ahead.

Lara (Lower Sixth)

Many congratulations to Lara for putting together this wonderful event, and to our speakers from KEHS – Anjali, Anna, Ashrita and Summer – and KES – Amaan, Dylan and Che.
