Ibiza? Some might question the destination for a school trip, based on a perception of a small island in the Balearics and it’s reputation as predominantly being a party island. Such opinions couldn’t be further from the truth of what the island has to offer, and I was delighted to take that leap of faith to show our pupils the endless possibilities on the island, for education about the biodiversity of the ocean, activities that involve the sea, developing a knowledge of the geography of this volcanic island as well as having lots of fun. Ibiza offers white beaches, turquoise waters, a rocky coastline and a community of people who welcomed us with open arms. We collaborated with a local enterprise called ‘Meet the Sea’ and the tour operator Greg and his team of professional staff could not do enough to make us feel welcome and for the pupils to have some amazing experiences and opportunities.
Activities included a hike along the rocky coastline ending in a swim in the clear blue waters, open sea paddleboarding, kayaking, sailing, using an underwater drone which was brought to us from a company in Madrid, a visit to the artisan Hippy Market in Es Canar, a visit to a natural cave aquarium, as well as an incredible sunset cruise to finish off our trip.
The pupils thoroughly enjoyed the experience, and we hope to be able to run the trip again in the future based on the very positive feedback we have received.
