Visit of Sir Ian Bauckham CBE

Last week, we were delighted to welcome Sir Ian Bauckham CBE, Ofqual’s Chief Regulator, when he visited KES and KEHS.

The visit was part of his ongoing programme to spend time with schools, colleges and other education providers across the country, all of whom offer qualifications Ofqual regulates, such as GCSEs and A Levels. The visit was particularly special as it was the first one Sir Ian had made to an independent school within this programme.

Sir Ian was accompanied by Markus Hextall, Associate Director, Standards for Delivery and Performance (General Qualifications), Jo Handford, Associate Director, Strategic Projects and Innovation, and Lucy Sydney, Director of Strategic Relationships.

Sir Ian and his team met with school leaders, teachers and pupils, discussing curriculum reform, the opportunities and risks of onscreen assessment, and the implications of AI for teaching, learning and assessment.

Our pupils were impressive in demonstrating an understanding of how AI can support learning while being aware of the risks of letting it do their thinking for them.
