This week, our Lower Sixth Young Enterprise Company, Y-55, attended the Birmingham and Solihull final of the Young Enterprise competition. Y-55 specialises in recycled clothing and the ethos of the company is very much about drawing the attention of the public to the environmental problems caused by the fashion industry. The students have successfully sold recycled sweatshirts at trade fairs and in school, generating healthy profits as well as educating customers about environmental issues within the fashion industry. The competition was held at the Solihull office of the engineering design firm, Arup, and enabled the students to present to a large audience, answering questions about their company. The standards were exceptionally high this year and all the companies who made it to the final demonstrated that the future of entrepreneurship in the UK is in safe hands. Y-55 gave an excellent presentation and were praised by the judges for their environmental ethos and branding. As a result, Y-55 won the prize for sustainability. Well done to all the participants in this year’s Young Enterprise Scheme.
