On Thursday 10th June, the school community were invited by the Astronomy club to get a view of the partial solar eclipse.

“Today it reminded me of the saying, ‘All dressed up with nowhere to go’! We were all ready to make amazing observations of the eclipse, only for the clouds to spoil the party (almost)! Preparations for this eclipse had been going on for a few weeks in our Friday after school Astronomy club. We had four telescopes fitted with suitable filters, with one set up to take photographs. Over a hundred solar viewing glasses and several pairs of binoculars with suitable filters were available for members of the KEHS community to view this wonder of nature. We even had temperature and light intensity sensors monitoring the atmospheric conditions. Unfortunately, our sightings of the Moon taking a bite out of the Sun were few and far between, but in breaks of the cloud between 10.00am and 12.20pm our patience was rewarded.” Dr Tedd

We were mentioned on BBC Midlands Today that evening, with two photos of our Astronomy Club being shown. You can watch here – the solar eclipse piece is at the beginning of the weather segment (start watching at 23:32).
