On Thursday, the first Lunchtime recital of the year, the Miss Margaret Davis Memorial Recital, named after a generous benefactor to the Music Department, was held in the Ruddock Hall. It featured Jessica and Charlotte, playing the violin and oboe respectively, in what were their final solo recitals at KEHS. Both played brilliantly: Charlotte’s rendition of Britten’s Temporal Variations was precise, deliberate and accurately played, not to mention musically styled and performed with significant panache. Jess gave a fantastically musical performance of part of Ernst Bloch’s Baal Shem Suite, which was preceded by some stylistic and idiomatic Tartini, his Sonata in B minor, Didone Abbandonata. Congratulations to both girls on a fantastic recital and to Ms Sanders for tackling some tricky accompaniments – a fabulous start to this year’s Lunchtime Recital Series.
