During February half term, Naomi in the Lower Sixth took part in the Romanian Master of Mathematics international competition. Naomi was the only female competitor in the UK team, while many other teams had solely male representation. The team travelled together to Tudor Vianu school in Bucharest where the opening ceremony took place. On the first day of the main competition, the participants sat a four and a half hour long maths paper consisting of just three questions. After a minor catastrophe, the organisers had to stay up all night writing a new set of questions for the next round because the Bulgarian team had been given the wrong first set of questions! Naomi was able to solve the first question in the paper on each of the two days, which is considered quite an achievement. During the closing ceremony, after some initial flag rivalry between the teams, two UK competitors were awarded Bronze medals and Naomi received an Honourable Mention.
An exploration of Ancient Greece
From the very first day to the last, we found ourselves entirely submerged in both modern and ancient Greek culture, from participating in a couple of chaotic dances to being taught (and quizzed) on different objects we hunted for in the museums.
